The Little Mermaid – A Tribute to Hans Christian Andersen

As part of my role as Education Coordinator for the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra, I led the creation of a reimagined version of The Little Mermaid—a tribute to Hans Christian Andersen. This interdisciplinary performance combined classical music, original songs, live animation, and immersive storytelling to present a bold, new perspective on the beloved tale.
In collaboration with the orchestra’s associate conductor, we curated a musical program featuring classical works and original songs by Cantoalegre, a children and youth choir. I wrote the script, retelling the story from the perspective of a brave mermaid—not one seeking a prince, but a princess eager to explore the world beyond the sea.
To enhance the narrative, I created two animated scenes and used Tagtool, a live-animation app, to bring illustrations to life during the performance. This interactive approach allowed me to integrate drawings created by children during a pre-concert activity, making their creativity part of the live experience.
The result was a magical and immersive production where music, light, and animation worked together to transform the concert into a vivid, collaborative storytelling adventure.
